  • What type of weather can I expect?
The Yucatan Peninsula enjoys more sunny days out of the year than any other part of Mexico. Rainy season is usually from May to October but because of world climatic changes in general, rains have lessened. The average temperature range is shown in the graph on this page, typically in the 70s and 80s.

Hurricanes
The Yucatan Peninsula is in a cyclonic zone. Tropical and subtropical ocean water gives way to the formation of hurricanes because it is where the rotation of the Earth initiates low pressure. Every year, approximately four hurricanes enter Mexican territory whether it be via the Gulf, Pacific, or Caribbean. So far, the only hurricanes that have struck the island directly were Gilberto in 1988, and Wilma in 2005. Given the importance of tourism to the Mexican economy, most services were restored within days of the storms, and leaving few visible after effects. Unlike some other unfortunate areas hit by storms, Isla Mujeres is above sealevel, and its porous geology drains quickly.

  • Are there medical services in case of emergency?

Yes. There is a Health Center just off the main square in town, and a Navy Hospital located mid-island. In the cities and villages of Quintana Roo there are both public hospitals and private clinics. The Red Cross services the whole area. Medical service is good here and some internationally known physicians.
